Suede is not a finish applied to leather. It is the underside of the hide, sanded until the fibre stands up. Every skin is picked for nap and depth, because the same dye lands differently on every one.
The thylacin was declared extinct in 1936. We took the name, and we name every colourway after an animal still holding on — woodland fox, midnight panther, frost wolf.

The hide is read for grain and flaw, then cut. Nothing is cut twice the same way, because no two hides are the same.
Cut panels are stitched into an upper. The seams are where a shoe fails first, so they are made to outlive the sole.
The upper is pulled over a last and held until it takes the shape of a foot. This is where fit is decided.
Sole attached, edges dressed, nap raised. The pair is handled one last time before it is boxed.
The Thylacine was rare. It disappeared.
Its story did not.
